I’m a student of JNU, New Delhi and I am residing in one of the hostels of this beautiful University. I like reading, writing, cooking, going for long walks, exploring places, befriending dogs, watering plants, talking to trees, etc. I like doing a lot of things, but laundry isn’t one of them. I’ll tell you why.

1. Delhi’s water woes – Thanks to the acute paucity of water in the city, washing clothes at home have become a luxury affordable by only those who can buy a pint of water at the price of a beer.

2. Paani mein kuch kaala hai – Even if you’re getting it, it might be unfit for any purpose. I have had murky, yellowish water flowing out of my taps, and I’d rather not risk my white shirts with it.

3. Raisin-like-fingers – I have soft hands and I hate what the detergent does to my fingers every time I do my laundry.

4. No vacancy on the clothesline – Now, even if I’ve managed to finish my laundry without grumbling, there’ll be something to tick me off, and very often, it is not finding any space on the clothesline to dry my clothes.

5. The post-laundry chores – Now, even if I’ve successfully washed and dried my clothes, I’ll have to take them to a presswala, and very often, the presswala makes me visit him a couple of times at least before he’s done my job.

6. Those colors – Ah! Just the last time I ruined my new pastel yellow shirt because I soaked it with a new blue jeans. And I bet you’ve been through this pain as well.

7. Rainy days – The agony of going out to celebrate your victory over a dirty pile of laundry only to realise that the rain screwed it all while you were away.

8. Winter days – Laundry becomes exceptionally painful in winters. The sweaters and sweatshirts are not all that easy to wash, and then the clothes take ages to dry. And, the water’s so COLD…

9. Fatigue – TheSunday laundry, which includes my bedsheets, jeans and other heavy clothes, is so exhausting that it leaves me with no physical energy to do anything else the rest of the day.

10. Such a dreadful way of spending a beautiful Sunday – Well, I could be reading a book, visiting some old pals from school, or just sitting around doing nothing. But. LAUNDRY. GRRRRRRRR.
