Black

Your wardrobe isn’t complete if you don’t have black in it… Period!

For men and women alike, black is an evergreen colour. However, it is important to maintain and preserve clothes to prevent them from fading and ensuring that they retain their ‘blackness’ for as long as possible.  Here are a few tips that might prove useful for maintaining black clothes:

  1. Cold Water: Wash black clothes in cold water only. This is a standard rule that should not be violated. Warm water breaks and weakens the fabrics leading to shorter life span for clothes.
  1. Mild detergents do the trick: Since black clothes take time to appear soiled, it is best to wash them with mild detergents. Hard detergents are detrimental to the overall health of the fabric and lead to discolouration and fading.

The sturdiness of the colour also makes room to avoid unnecessary washing. Tip: While washing, always wash the black garments inside out.

  1. Storage: Here’s another golden rule…never dry black clothes in the washing machine or dryer. Hanging it in the shade is the best option.
  1. Avoid using bleach: Bleach is best avoided when it comes to treating black clothes if you want to retain their colour.
  1. Add Vinegar: Vinegar is a natural preserver of black dye of clothes and also softens the fabric of garments. Add a cup of distilled white vinegar to the washing machine during the rinse cycle, and see how it works wonders for your black clothes.

A few smart tips are all you need to ensure you don’t need to discard your LBD or black shirt every six months. So work smart and let out tips do the trick!
