Many of us will possibly clinch to those good old memories of our Moms drying clothes in bright sunlight on a sunny countryside afternoon. Buckets full of clothes, her vigorous shaking of clothes to spill out the tiniest bit of water molecules and then meticulously placing them on a makeshift metal wires to bake them in the scorching heat. Salute to her pain-staking ways of managing house hold laundry.

But as they say, old habits die-hard. Line-drying as its often called is still prevalent even in fast paced metros like Delhi. Besides being a time consuming monotonous engagement, line drying has got myriad others short comings to deal with. We all have that sour experience when we are in the middle of a laundry session on a lazy Sunday afternoon and suddenly it starts raining. Now,just because you are dependent on the solar magic for drying up clothes, situation gets disgusting. Plans of meeting someone special on a romantic Sunday evening go for a toss and all the fancy thoughts vanish into the pouring rains. Many would be wondering,Ahh..We have washer-cumdryers dude, but admit that these multifaceted ‘fully-automatic’ machines need a further 2-3 hours of solar treatment for the clothes to be dry enough to wear.

Talking about the detriments of line-drying, How about discovering a pigeon’s shit on your favorite pink vero-moda t-shirt? Or may be using a crunchy towel which was left too long in the gleaming sun. Doesn’t it feel like rubbing your body with a sand paper? What can be worst than realizing that your favorite white linen shirt which once used to be your most prized possession in your wardrobe has meet its fate courtesy an adamant rust imprint of the make shift metal wire used to hang clothes. It’s this emotional set back and off course a totally uninvited dent on your budget.
Greatest victims who are hoaxed into line drying are the bachelors as their life is often haphazard. More often than not, they forget to pick their clothes back indoors and this means a color faded red t-shirt with a lost soul, partially to the harsh solar radiations and partially to their ignorance. Ignorance is bliss but for god’s sake leave the clothes out of this rule of conduct.! These instances make the seemingly frugal line-drying a futility.

But with the advent of more of a technology driven lifestyle, technical alternatives for most of the bygone ages cumbersome procedures are readily available. Now days, the urban population seldom adheres to the outdated traditional ways of doing things and convenience is fast becoming a need rather than its literal meaning.

One such convenience is an industrial cloth dryer. This alternative is gaining popularity as the operational cost has become cheaper and is readily available with decent Laundromats. Here;I am not talking about the house bound washer-cum-dryers aka ‘fully automatic washing machines’. These dryers are only for namesake as the final output is semi-dried clothes requiring a further 2-3 hours of line drying. Industrial dryers are state-of-the-art machines designed to get every bit of moisture out of the clothes. The final output of these giant machines is absolutely dried and wearable fabrics.

Today, we have gotten used to using an Uber instead of the conventional autowalas, getting our grocery and food delivered at our doorsteps using one of the many online services out there. But for our laundry, many of us still rely on bygone proceedings. Its high time to be pragmatic non dogmatic. Just like our other chores, let the professionals take care of our clothes and make our lives hassle free from the intricacies of line drying.
